    Understanding the Elements of Composition

Last updated 1 day 16 hours ago

In order to put together a truly worthwhile photograph, it's essential that photographers create just the right composition. Composition is often described to novice photographers as the various components in the frame that come together to create a successful shot. These components include (but are not limited to) symmetry, geometric shapes or lines, and depth of field. Many photographers also consider texture to be an important element of composition, since it has a large impact on lighting.

Just like a beautiful painting requires the right tools, canvas, and colors, or a delicious meal calls for certain ingredients, the photos you shoot with your Leica or Nikon camera also require the right elements of composition. If you're consistently unsatisfied with the composition of your shots when you receive your photo prints, then be sure to consult with the experts here at Camera Land NY. To learn about our cameras, binoculars, or any other products we carry, call us at (646) 789-4830. You can also browse our inventory of digital cameras, lenses, camera accessories, and other products on our website.

    Choosing an Aperture for Portraits

    Last updated 9 days ago

One of the most important decisions that you have to make as a photographer while shooting is which aperture to use in order to create the best results. To avoid losing focus and to incorporate all of the essential elements into the shot, try shooting your portrait with an aperture between F4 and F6. Portrait photographs taken with an F4 aperture and a lens around 85 millimeters will highlight the details of your subject's face without taking compromising the sharpness of features like the hair and ears.

Shooting a portrait shot with an aperture any lower than F4 increases your risk of creating a final result that is not sharp nor ultimately satisfying to your or your client. For more tips on choosing an aperture for portraits, take a look at this helpful video.

If you are having a hard time selecting the right aperture or even the correct lens for your shots, visit Camera Land NY today.
